Prof. Dr. Umberto Berardi Appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of “Smart Cities and Urban Management” in Energies

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Umberto Berardi has been appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Smart Cities and Urban Management” in Energies (ISSN 1996-1073).

Dr. Berardi is the Canada Research Chair of Building Science and is a Full Professor and Director of the BeTOP center at Ryerson University in Toronto (Canada); alongside these roles, he also works for the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). His main research interests are related to the study of innovative solutions and new materials for improving the performance within the built environment. He has been focusing on integrating nanotechnologies into buildings, as well as on thermal energy storage with paraffin and bio-PCMs. He is also interested in exploring innovative solutions for more climate-change resilient communities and continues to study the impact of climate change concerning the sustainability of buildings and cities. He is a Principal Investigator at the Center of Urban Energy in Toronto. Dr. Berardi has an extensive publication record, including 130 peer-reviewed journals, 130 international conference papers, and five books. His publications have received over 10,000 citations (Google Scholar). His awards include (among others): the 10th Canada's Clean16 Award 2021 and the 2020 European Thermophysical Properties ECTP Award. Dr. Berardi has a body of funded research comprising over USD 2 M in government- and private-sector-sponsored research, and he also supervises a group of 15 researchers on average.

Recruiting Guest Editors for Fourteen New Sections of Energies

Energies has witnessed significant growth over the past few years, both in terms of overall influence and the quality and quantity of topics that the journal covers. To manage this expansion, we have decided to set up the following fourteen topical sections, allowing more specific avenues toward which experts all over the world can submit their works.

Given the prospect of open access repositories and especially the vigorous development of Energies, we are now recruiting Guest Editors (GEs) for these Sections. As Guest Editor, you will have the following responsibilities and opportunities:

– To serve as Editor of Special Issues on topics related to your critical research interests, at your convenience;

– To decide whether a manuscript qualifies for acceptance in the Special Issue, according to MDPI criteria;

– To promote Energies at academic events, and to increase its visibility within related academic fields;

– To invite paper submissions and enjoy our premium editorial service at any time.

Prof. Dr. Maria Founti Appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of “Energy and Combustion Science” in Energies

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Maria Founti has been appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Energy and Combustion Science” Section in Energies (ISSN 1996-1073).

Maria Founti is Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and director of the Laboratory of Heterogeneous Mixtures and Combustion Systems. Her research fields include heterogeneous mixtures, powder technology, spray and combustion systems, sustainability and energy efficiency. She has been working in the gypsum field since 1992 on processing techniques, grinding and pulverization, added value product development and energy efficiency solutions in processing plants and buildings. She has 200 publications in International Journals and Conferences and has supervised more than 50 M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses. She has organized and managed more than 40 E.C. and national funded projects. She has acted as external expert for project and Framework Programme monitoring (DG RTD and TREN). She has been a member of the External Advisory Group (1998-2002) of FP5 – KA1 “Innovative products, processes and organization” and chairperson of the Advisory Group of Priority 3 – NMP for FP6 (2002 -2006). She is member of the organizing committee of the “Greek Construction Technology Platform”, member of the European Construction Technology platform and of the Public Private Partnership in Energy Efficiency in Buildings. In last five years, she has co-authored more than 40 publications, and has more than 3000 citations (h = 30) in total according to the GS database.

Prof. Dr. Giovanni Esposito Appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of “Hydrogen Energy” in Energies

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Giovanni Esposito has been appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Hydrogen Energy” Section in Energies (ISSN 1996-1073).

Giovanni Esposito is Professor of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the University of Napoli “Federico II”. In 2004, he was awarded a PhD in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering from the same university, working for 1 year at the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands with an EU awarded “Marie Curie” fellowship. From 2004 to 2018, he worked at the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, where he built his own lab and research group with several PhD and post-doc fellows. From 2014 to 2019, he has been Coordinator of the “Marie Curie” European Joint Doctorate in Advanced Biological Waste to Energy Technologies (ABWET), and from 2009 to 2018, he has been Coordinator of the “Erasmus Mundus” International Joint Doctorate Program in Environmental Technologies for Contaminated Solids, Soils and Sediments, both funded by the European Commission. He has coordinated several research projects at national and international levels and is currently interested in developing, modeling and engineering innovative biotechnologies for energy and resources recovery from waste and wastewater. He has supervised more than 30 PhD and 70 MSc students and is (co)author of about 250 peer-reviewed publications in the environmental technology field, with more than 7000 citations and h-index 44 (Scopus source).
