Cover Story: Lignin biosynthesis is essential for plant structural rigidity, yet the cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) gene family remains uncharacterized in Oenanthe javanica, a medicinally important aquatic vegetable. This study presented the genome-wide identification of 17 OjCAD genes and conducted a systematic analysis of them. Hormonal treatments revealed that exogenous gibberellin increased lignin accumulation, while uniconazole reduced it. OjCAD15 and OjCAD17 emerged as candidate genes potentially involved in lignin biosynthesis, providing valuable targets for understanding lignin regulation and breeding improved varieties with optimal texture.
