Agriculture, Volume 16, Issue 4

2026 February-2 - 100 articles

Cover Story: The authors review over 1100 studies to show how work on wheat, maize, rice, and soybean has shifted from simple monitoring to full digital simulation. Today, the Sentinel-2 and Landsat missions provide dense time-series data processed by advanced ML and DL algorithms. These digital agronomists manipulate optical data radars (SAR) to observe and analyze land surface phenomenology (LSP) and the “phenology” of the crop life cycle. The authors believe that the future of technology in agriculture lies in interpretable AI, stating that “when a computer predicts a harvest, farmers must understand the ‘why’ behind the data”. View this paper
