Cover Story: In this paper, we report on improved measurement and calculation techniques regarding the complex permeability of ferrites, one of the essential quantities that define inductor behavior in the frequency domain. This is significant because it might help in the development of improved inductor loss models and also universal simulation models (e.g., SPICE models) that capture all AC loss mechanisms (core loss, winding loss, etc.), which do not yet exist, especially if we consider high-frequency power electronics applications. The paper should interest readers who are concerned with power electronics and magnetic elements. View this paper
