Cover Story: Digitalization and sustainability are reshaping human resource management at the same time; yet, whether their research streams actually connect is more often assumed than measured. This study measures that relationship directly. Treating digital HRM and sustainability-oriented HRM as two prespecified query-defined streams, it compares them across OpenAlex and Scopus over 2012 to 2025 with a fully reproducible protocol that covers document overlap, directed cross-citation, cross-database rank agreement, and keyword and network mapping. The result is integration that is real yet partial, asymmetric, and dependent on database, vocabulary, and method. ESG surfaces as a shared bridge while the two communities still cluster apart. Rather than assuming an interdisciplinary field, the study offers a transparent way to measure how far one has formed. View this paper
