Cover Story: New hybrids that can be used as sensitive coatings for real-time metal analysis were easily prepared through the immobilization of an N-confused porphyrin on functionalized silica and Merrifield resin. The presence of the porphyrin ligand on the supports was confirmed using UV-Vis, SEM, and zeta potential analysis. The sensing ability of the hybrids towards thallium(I) and chromium(III) was evaluated after their deposition in piezoelectric quartz crystal gold electrodes, revealing that the porphyrin retains its ability to interact with metal ions and is generally more sensitive to chromium than to thallium.
