Cover Story: Future gravitational wave experiments will seek stochastic gravitational waves in the universe. If a signal is detected, then single scalar field descriptions will be in a bad position, since the current predictions of those theories lead to undetectable signals. A possible signal will either mean that some modified gravity is the underlying theory that produces the signal or that some abnormal reheating era takes place. Modified gravity theories lead to detectable signals from future gravitational wave experiments. With this short review, we aim to provide the tools for calculating the modified gravity effects on primordial gravitational waves. View this paper.
