Cover Story: Over the last three decades, there has been a remarkable expansion in the clinical field of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs). MBIs consist of short and structured intervention protocols focused on teaching patients the use of mindfulness for therapeutic purposes. However, despite the popularity of MBIs, evidence about their efficacy and safety in the treatment of schizophrenia is very scarce. Therefore, the authors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials published and indexed in various databases. Through careful analysis of the studies collected, including their methodological quality, conclusions were drawn regarding the efficacy of MBIs on different clinical parameters of schizophrenia, and on their safety in the treatment of this disorder.
