Cover Story: The study proposes a pre-signature scheme for enabling vehicle-to-vehicle trust in rural areas with low RSU adoption. Integrating this scheme into existing standards, such as the Security Credential Management System, improves reputation dissemination management regardless of the sparse RSU coverage. Utilizing the traffic simulation tool SUMO, the study simulates a 24 h scenario to evaluate the performance of the pre-signature operation in rural areas. The study reveals the effect of three properties—communication range, RSU density, and overnight vehicle connectivity—on V2V efficiency in such a challenging environment. Results improved reputation access with these factors and reduced reliance on pre-signatures as RSU availability increases, benefiting areas with limited infrastructure. View this paper
