Cover Story: C-reactive protein (CRP) is an important biomarker of infection and inflammation. Highly sensitive, fast, and reproducible assays for CRP detection are needed. This article analyses the most recent advances made in the development of bioanalytical assays based on gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) for the in vitro detection and quantification of CRP from biological samples. Current methods for Au-NPs synthesis and the strategies for surface modification aiming at selectivity towards CRP are highlighted. View this paper
