Cover Story: Inspired by earthworm locomotion, this soft pneumatic robot is designed to move safely through confined and curved pipelines using inflatable anchors and compliant bellows actuators. The prototype achieved horizontal and vertical speeds of roughly 21 mm/s, negotiated a 90° bend, and carried a 1.2 kg vertical payload—approximately five times its own mass. Reliable anchoring was obtained at only 0.1 bar. The results highlight how simple, low-pressure soft robotic mechanisms can provide adaptable and gentle mobility for future autonomous pipeline inspection. View this paper
