Cover Story: Hydrogen oxy-combustion in CO2-rich atmospheres is a key element of next-generation supercritical CO2 power cycles, where compact and stable combustors are required for efficient low-emission energy conversion. This study presents an experimental and numerical investigation of a custom-designed hydrogen combustor operating in an O2–CO2 environment. The chamber was tested at atmospheric pressure, while reactant inlet pressures were varied from 10 to 50 bar to isolate the effect of injection conditions on flame behavior. The results show that increasing inlet pressure leads to a more compact and localized flame, higher peak temperatures, and lower mean combustor temperatures. The study provides insight into flame stabilization, mixing, and heat release in highly CO2-diluted hydrogen combustion. View this paper
