Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The global energy landscape is changing rapidly as countries move from fossil fuels to renewable and sustainable energy sources. This transition is driven by the urgent need to reduce climate change impacts, improve energy security, and support long-term economic stability. Governments, industries, and policymakers are investing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and new technologies to support this shift.
However, the connection between energy transition and economic growth is complex. Clean energy can drive innovation, create jobs, and boost industries, but it also brings challenges. These include energy price fluctuations, infrastructure changes, and policy uncertainties. The economic impact of this transition varies across countries, depending on financial development, governance, and technological progress.
This Special Issue explores how energy transition and economic growth influence each other. It aims to provide empirical and theoretical insights into how energy structure shifts affect economic development, productivity, and sustainability. It also examines the role of economic growth in driving the energy transition. By bringing together interdisciplinary research, this Special Issue will offer valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and researchers.
We invite original research and review articles on topics including, but not limited to, the following:
- Energy Transition and Economic Development
- The impact of renewable energy adoption on economic growth.
- The role of fossil fuels in economic development.
- Energy policies, regulations, and carbon pricing effects on economic outcomes.
- How technological innovation drives energy transitions.
- The impact of energy transition on employment, income inequality, and industrial transformation.
- Best Practices for Sustainable Energy Transitions
- Economic modeling of energy transition pathways.
- Sectoral shifts and industrial transformation due to energy transition.
- The role of financial markets and green investments.
- Carbon pricing, subsidies, and their effects on economic growth.
- The effectiveness of government policies in promoting sustainable energy.
- Social and Technological Impacts of Energy Transition
- Job creation and labor market shifts in the transition to renewable energy.
- The effects of energy transition on income inequality and social equity.
- The economic burden of energy transition in developing economies.
- The role of digitalization, smart grids, and AI in energy efficiency.
- The impact of energy storage and battery technologies on energy systems.
- Green hydrogen and its potential for economic transformation.
- Comparative and Regional Studies
- Case studies on successful energy transitions in developed and developing countries.
- The role of institutional quality in shaping energy transition outcomes.
- Energy transition strategies in resource-rich vs. energy-importing economies.
We look forward to receiving high-quality submissions that advance knowledge on the energy transition and its economic impacts.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
