Cover Story: Low-Sr-doped hydroxyapatite powders, prepared via solid-state synthesis, were structurally characterized using complementary investigations. Morphological observations showed the presence of massive fragments (size < 20 μm). PXRD analysis highlighted the high purity of samples with the lowest Sr rates (2.5 and 5.6 wt%) and the presence of tricalcium phosphate rate (ca. 40%) in the high Sr concentration (10 wt%) sample with Ca+Sr/P<1.67. An increase in unit cell parameters was revealed, consistent with the partial substitution of smaller Ca2+ with larger Sr2+ ion. Rietveld refinement clarified that the Sr entered into the Ca1 site in low-Sr-doped samples and Ca2 in the sample with the highest Sr rate. FTIR and Raman pointed out slight band shifts as a result of the increase in the Sr dopant. View this paper
