Cover Story: Discriminative itemset mining reveals patterns that distinguish one dataset from others. Conventional approaches identify such patterns primarily through differences in their frequency across datasets. This work extends this perspective by incorporating succession into the discrimination process through the ARIS framework. A pattern can therefore also emerge as discriminative when its occurrences are locally concentrated within the ordered transactions of a target dataset. The proposed approach captures both conventional frequency-based discrimination and succession-based discrimination, where transaction proximity provides additional information for identifying patterns characteristic of a target dataset. View this paper
