Cover Story: Accurate demand estimation and capacity planning are essential for improving dairy production. This study proposes a hybrid decision-support approach combining neural-network demand forecasting with discrete-event simulation for proactive capacity planning. Historical demand data were used to develop feedforward neural-network models, the forecasts of which were incorporated into a FlexSim model of a milk-bag production process. The framework identifies capacity constraints and bottlenecks and evaluates resource configurations under projected demand. Results show that the selected configuration increased simulated production capacity from 940 to 1200 milk bags per day, a 27.7% improvement. The findings demonstrate the potential of integrating predictive analytics and simulation to support capacity planning and production improvement. View this paper
