Cover Story: Hydrogen is widely regarded as a clean and sustainable energy carrier for future energy systems. In this work, reusable NiCo/Cu catalysts with varying cobalt content were developed through a cost-effective electroless deposition method and applied to hydrogen production via sodium borohydride hydrolysis. The study demonstrates that tuning the Ni–Co composition significantly enhances catalytic performance due to synergistic effects between the metals. The optimized catalyst exhibited high hydrogen generation rates, relatively low activation energy, and strong durability over repeated cycles, maintaining most of its initial activity. These findings highlight NiCo/Cu as an efficient and economically viable alternative to noble metal catalysts for green hydrogen generation. View this paper
