The year 2018 marks the 10th Anniversary of Materials.
2019 Materials published its 10,000th paper.
Materials adopted a semi-monthly publication schedule.
The Portuguese Materials Society (SPM) became affiliated to Materials.
The Manufacturing Engineering Society (MES) became affiliated to Materials.
Prof. John B. Goodenough, the 2019 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, authored a review paper on "Advanced Electrodes for High Power Li-ion Batteries" in Materials in 2013.

- Structure Analysis and Characterization was renamed as Advanced Materials Characterization.

2022 The Impact Factor increased to 3.748.
Materials received its CiteScore (2021) of 4.7, ranked 159/455 in “General Materials Science”.
Materials established the following section:
- Green Materials.
2023 Materials received its 2022 Impact Factor (3.4).
Materials received its CiteScore (2022) of 5.2, ranked 163/453 in “General Materials Science”.
- Optics and Photonics was renamed as Optical and Photonic Materials.
2024 Materials received its 2023 Impact Factor (3.1), ranked 20/90 (Q1) in "Metallurgy and Metallurgical Engineering", ranked 208/438 (Q2) in "Materials Science, Multidisciplinary".
Materials received its CiteScore (2023) of 5.8, ranked 149/463 in “General Materials Science”.
The Chinese Society of Micro-Nano Technology (CSMNT) became affiliated to Materials.
