Cover Story: Agro-industrial residues can retain substantial energy potential even after the extraction of high-value compounds. This study explores the anaerobic digestion and co-digestion of post-extraction tomato pomace and green walnut shells as a cascade valorization strategy. Combining these complementary residues markedly enhanced methane production, revealing strong synergistic effects and demonstrating that extraction and bioenergy recovery can be successfully integrated within a biorefinery approach. The findings highlight anaerobic co-digestion as a promising route to convert residual biomass into renewable energy while promoting resource efficiency and circularity in agro-industrial systems.
