Children Webinar | Neonatal Clinical Pharmacology—Held on 5 May 2023

On Friday, 5 May 2023, MDPI and the journal Children (ISSN: 2227-9067) organized a webinar titled “Neonatal Clinical Pharmacology”. The webinar focused on the pharmacotherapy of newborns.
Prof. Dr. Karel Allegaert first introduced the limited size and extensive variability of neonatal clinical pharmacology. Dr. Robert B. Flint and Dr. Nadir Yalcin showed us new emerging tools that may facilitate the improvement of pharmacotherapy, for both pharmacokinetics (model-informed precision dosing) and -dynamics (machine learning to improve drug–drug interaction or adverse drug reaction recognition), and both approaches are subsequently discussed in the webinar to show ways and approaches for future progress.
Please note that this webinar is associated with a Special Issue in Children entitled “Neonatal Clinical Pharmacology”. The deadline is 25 August 2023.
You can watch the recorded webinar at the following link:

Topical Collection Webinar | Sleep(-Related) Phenotypes: Future Directions for Insomnia, ADHD, Restless Sleep Disorders in Childhood, Held on 24 May 2023

On Wednesday, 24 May 2023, MDPI and the journals International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH, ISSN: 1660-4601) and Children (ISSN: 2227-9067) organized the webinar entitled "Sleep(-Related) Phenotypes: Future Directions for Insomnia, ADHD, Restless Sleep Disorders in Childhood". The webinar focused on the current findings in children presenting insomnia and restless sleep.
Insomnia, defined as difficulties falling asleep, difficulties maintaining sleep, or early awakenings, is a very common complaint. Presentations in this webinar demonstrate comprehensively that insomnia complaints are a transdiagnostic issue in (a)typically developing children. Therefore, careful assessment and diagnosis, as presented in these talks, are crucial steps toward successful treatment. The detrimental impact on families' sleep cannot be ignored, that is, at least one parent will have poor sleep when struggling each night with a poor-sleeping child. Thus, increased awareness across healthcare professionals is the priority of our pediatric sleep field, and this should resonate across our society.

Free Media Partnership between Children and EURLYAID International Early Childhood Intervention Conference, 15–16 May, Prague, Czech Republic

We are pleased to announce that the EURLYAID International Early Childhood Intervention Conference has set up a free media partnership with Children (ISSN: 2227-9067).
Conference: EURLYAID International Early Childhood Intervention Conference
Date: 15–16 May 2023
Place: Prague, Czech Republic
The aim of the conference, titled "Building bridges together in early childhood intervention", is to connect specialized fields and create multidisciplinary teams and comprehensive support for families caring for children with special needs. We include parents in the role of experts, as they know their children's needs best and are therefore equal partners with early childhood intervention (ECI) consultants and other specialists.
Top experts on ECI from all over the world, and other leading professionals from the Czech Republic and abroad will participate in the conference. Contributions will be made by speakers from the field of ECI as well as many other collaborating professions.
Visit the conference website for more information at www.eciprague.com. Registration is open until 26 April 2023.

Children Webinar | Neonatal Clinical Pharmacology, 5 May 2023

Pharmacotherapy is a very powerful intervention to improve outcome, and this is also true in neonates. The prescription of a given drug should result in a safe and effective intervention to treat or prevent a specific disease or risk in an individual patient or population while avoiding disproportional side effects. Clinical pharmacology supports these aims in predicting drug-related (side) effects driven by pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD). The dynamic changes related to maturation and growth in newborns result in a unique setting with extensive variability. Non-maturational changes (such as disease characteristics, drug–drug interactions, pharmacogenetics, and lactation-related exposure) further add to this variability.
This is a growing and active field of clinical research, with several reports on PK, PD, pharmacovigilance and -safety, and pharmaco-epidemiology having been published. This clinical field is further supported by novelties in the methods that are currently available (low-volume sample analysis, population PK analysis, physiology-based PK).
