Cover Story: The search for potential catalysts of the oxygen reduction reaction is one of the most important topics in the field of energy research, with a particular interest in nanostructured materials. Our study provides useful information on the methods of production of metal-free carbon particles, characterized by a structure capable of promoting the development of the desired reactions. In particular, a comparison is made between two hydrothermal carbonization techniques, observing the materials obtained through different characterization tests. The analysis carried out on the results of these tests has therefore allowed us to evaluate the main benefits associated with the two processes. View this paper
