Cover Story: Pediatric ischemic stroke is rare but can have lasting effects on a child’s development. Early rehabilitation is thought to support recovery, yet practices vary widely and evidence remains limited. This review of 20 sources suggests that rehabilitation within days to weeks after stroke may improve outcomes through neuroplasticity. Multidisciplinary care is consistently recommended. Most evidence, however, is observational or indirect. Emerging therapies show promise but need further study. The authors call for high-quality prospective studies and randomized controlled trials to establish standardized protocols, define optimal timing and intensity, and ultimately improve long-term outcomes for children affected by stroke. View this paper
