Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Adolescent adiposity represents a critical public health issue. Obesity rates among adolescents follow an increasing global trend driven by complex interactions among genetic predisposition, behavioral factors, and socio-environmental determinants. Excessive adiposity during adolescence has been widely recognized for its short-term and long-term consequences, including metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and adverse psychosocial outcomes in early adult life. Despite advances in research, gaps remain in understanding the multifaced disease of adolescent obesity.

This Special Issue aims to synthesize all the currently available evidence and stimulate scholarly discourse on the prevention, assessment, and management of adiposity during adolescence. Its broad scope includes high-quality contributions on pathophysiological mechanisms, population-level epidemiology, clinical interventions, and public health strategies tackling adolescent obesity. Cutting-edge research that explores novel biomarkers, digital interventions, school-based programs, and equity-focused approaches to care is also highlighted in this Special Issue. Submissions that address health disparities, implementation science, and longitudinal outcomes are particularly encouraged.

Data drawn from original research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and commentary articles in the field of adolescent adiposity and obesity are warmly welcomed in order to form this Special Issue. By highlighting emerging evidence and innovative interventions, this issue aspires to bridge research and clinical practice for the promotion of adolescent health and well-being.
