2026 February - 182 articles

Cover Story: Using the global phase symmetry of fermionic quantum states, we show how this symmetry induces a hidden rotational symmetry in the Jordan–Wigner transformation to a spin representation. This symmetry can be exploited to reduce the number of required measurement circuits by using non-entangled circuits. Single-particle terms, such as hopping terms, are always more efficiently evaluated in this way. Two-particle interaction terms are generally simpler to evaluate using entangled circuits, except in special cases. We demonstrate how to apply these ideas to circuits that prepare the ground states of the Hubbard model and to the electronic structure of molecules. View this paper
