Cover Story: The accurate assessment of children’s dietary intake is critical to understand influences on eating patterns, to assess relationships between diet and health outcomes, and for evaluating the outcomes of dietary interventions aimed to promote healthful eating among children. Existing evidence suggests that the interview-administered 24-h recall with parents is the most accurate method to assess children’s dietary intake. However, typical 24-h recalls require highly trained staff to conduct the interviews and code intake data using specialized software, making the method expensive and burdensome. To overcome these limitations, self-administered and automatically-coded 24-h recalls using parent proxy-report are needed. View this paper>
