Cover Story: In this work, a theranostic agent combining fullerene nanocrystals and gold nanoparticles for photoacoustic imaging and photothermal therapy was developed for cancer treatment. For their efficient energy transfer from gold nanoparticles to fullerene nanocrystals, the hybrid system could induce cell death toward cancer cells via a photothermal heating character and visualize tumor tissue in tumor xenograft model mice via photoacoustic imaging.
