Cover Story: In this work, we assess the reliability of a new Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK)-type model of the linearized Boltzmann equation for binary gas mixtures by investigating the propagation of high-frequency sound waves in microchannels. In order to take into account the different gas–wall interaction properties experienced by the mixture components, we solve the kinetic equations assuming Maxwell boundary conditions, with different accommodation coefficients for the two species. Unlike other BGK models existing in the literature, the newly proposed model can describe general intermolecular forces. View this paper
