Fluids 2021–2022 Travel Awards (400 CHF)
Dear Colleagues,
Fluids has been carefully monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19, which is spreading rapidly around the world, leading to further restrictions on scientific conference activities. It is with the deepest regret that we announce that the Fluids 2021–2022 Travel Awards has been postponed further.
Fluids will be awarding two Travel Awards to junior scientists. Applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars from the Fluids Editorial Board. The application deadline has been provisionally extended to 31 December 2021.
This prize will provide financial support for the winners to attend an international conference in the field of fluids to be held in 2022, in order to hold a presentation, present a poster, or both.
Candidate Requirements:
– Postdoctoral fellows or PhD students.
– Plans to attend an international conference in 2022 (oral presentation or poster).
Required Application Documents:
– Information of the conference the applicant is planning to attend and the abstract that will be submitted.
– Curriculum Vitae and list of publications.
– Justification letter describing the focus of the research (max. 800 words).
– Letter of recommendation from the supervisor, research director, or department head, which also confirms the applicant’s status as a postdoctoral fellow/PhD student.
The winners (two awardees) will each be awarded 400 CHF and a certificate.
Please submit your applications for the Fluids 2021–2022 Travel Awards online by 31 December 2021. Prizes will be awarded at the end of February 2022 and announced on the Fluids website.
Fluids 2020 Best Paper Award (500 CHF)
Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the Fluids 2020 Best Paper Awards for research and review articles published in Fluids from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020. One review and two research articles will each receive an award. The papers will be selected after thorough evaluation by the journal Award Committee, and the winners will be announced in February 2022.
Eligibility for the awards
– Papers published in Fluids from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020;
– Open to all career levels;
– Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.
Selection Criteria
The papers will be selected by the journal Award Committee according to the following criteria (data source: Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics)):
– Scientific merit and broad impact;
– Relevance to the journal’s field;
– Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
– Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
– Clarity of presentation;
– Citation and download rates in 2021.
Prize
– One review award: 500 CHF and a chance to publish a paper in Fluids in 2022;
– Two research article awards: 500 CHF and a chance to publish a paper in Fluids in 2022.
– Each winner will also receive a certificate.
The winners will be announced on the journal website in February 2022.

Fluids 2019 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
It is our great pleasure to announce the two winners of the 2019 Fluids Travel Awards: Elham Alipour Tarzanagh, Ph.D. Candidate at University of Adelaide, Australia, and Peter J. Baddoo, Ph.D. Candidate at University of Cambridge, UK. The awards consist of 400 Swiss Francs each to attend an academic conference of the winner’s choice in the second half of 2019 or first half of 2020.
Ms. Elham Alipour Tarzanagh works on hybrid solar receivers, turbulent flows and particle image velocimetry (PIV). She will present her research “The Relative Influence of the Flow Through Combustion Nozzles and an External Wind on the Induced Flows through the Aperture of a Hybrid Solar Receiver Combustor” at 17th European Turbulence Conference (ETC 2019), 3–6 September 2019, in Torino, Italy.
Mr. Peter J. Baddoo’s research is focussed on applying complex variable methods to study flows through periodic domains. He will present his research “Exact Solutions to Flows in Periodic Domains” at the 72nd Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics, 23–26 November 2019, in Seattle, WA, USA.

Fluids 2018 Travel Awards

We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2018 Fluids Travel Award: Yaqing Jin, Ph.D. Candidate at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The award consists of 800 Swiss Francs to attend any academic conference in the second half year of 2018 or first half year of 2019.
Mr. Yaqing Jin works on fluid-structure interaction, advanced flow diagnostics, wind energy and turbulence. He will present his research “Turbulence-Driven Reverse Lift on Structures with Deflected Tails” at the 71st Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics, 18 November 2018, in Atlanta, GA, USA.
It was a difficult decision, given the exceptional quality of about 100 applications for the award. We would like to thank all applicants and to congratulate Mr. Yaqing Jin for his accomplishments.
