Cover Story: Characterizing the interfacial structure and dynamics of two-dimensional (2D) material/organic molecule hybrid heterostructures is key to related applications. By developing a time-resolved sum-frequency (SF) vibrational spectroscopy scheme, we demonstrate the investigation of excitonic–vibrational interactions at an interface of organic molecules (PMMA) and 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). Besides retrieving the structural information about PMMA side chains facing the TMDC interface, we further observed an appreciable enhancement of the vibrational SF signal upon resonance with TMDC excitons, at an ultrafast timescale. The experimental scheme would help provide further insights into interactions at the 2D material/organic molecule interfaces. View this paper
