Cover Story: The reverse electrodialysis unit's operating parameters depend on the design of the module, solutions that are used, and the characteristics of the membranes. One of the main characteristics of the ion-exchange membranes that define the effectiveness of their application in reverse electrodialysis is permselectivity. In the paper, we used the microheterogeneous model to calculate the heterogeneous ion-exchange membranes' selectivity based on data from conductivity and diffusion permeability. The calculated values of the net power density and open-circuit voltage are compared with experimental data obtained on the lab-scale RED module. View this paper
