World Autism Awareness Day—“Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, 2 April 2025

Autistic individuals contribute uniquely to society, bringing diverse perspectives, creativity, and innovation. Recognizing and valuing neurodiversity fosters more inclusive communities where individuals with autism can thrive. However, many face challenges in accessing education, employment, healthcare, and social support due to systemic barriers and misconceptions. By strengthening inclusive policies, support networks, and awareness efforts, we can create environments that empower autistic individuals to reach their full potential while ensuring their rights, dignity, and well-being.

In recognition of the International Day of Autism Awareness, observed annually on 2 April, we celebrate the contributions of autistic individuals and reaffirm our commitment to promoting inclusion and acceptance. The theme for this year’s World Autism Awareness Day, Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, emphasizes the importance of integrating neurodiversity into global development efforts, ensuring that autistic individuals are included in the pursuit of the SDGs. We highlight a selection of relevant articles, Special Issues, and journals spanning disciplines such as psychology, education, public health, and social sciences. Through the dissemination of research, we aim to deepen understanding, promote acceptance, and encourage practical solutions that enhance the lives of autistic individuals. By fostering awareness and advocacy, we can work toward a more inclusive, supportive, and neurodiverse society.

World Tuberculosis Day 2025—“Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver”, 24 March 2025

Tuberculosis is a disease that is both preventable and treatable, significantly affecting people’s health and quality of life worldwide. Every year, we commemorate World Tuberculosis Day to raise public awareness of the devastating health, social, and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to intensify efforts to end the global TB epidemic. The date signifies the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of the bacterium responsible for TB, which paved the way for diagnosing and curing this disease. We hope that established journals in the fields of Biology Life Sciences and Medicine & Pharmacology at MDPI, including Pathogens, Microorganisms, Reports, Medical Sciences, Healthcare and Diagnostics will continue to serve as a communication platform for innovative ideas regarding prevention and treatment.

World Down Syndrome Day, 21 March 2025

This year, World Down Syndrome Day will be celebrated on 21 March 2025. Each year, approximately 3,000 to 5,000 children are born with this chromosome disorder. In 2025, we call for people around the world to “end the stereotypes”.

Aiming at improving the quality of life of people with Down syndrome and propelling the scientific development in this field, we would like to recommend some related articles, Special Issues, and journals in MDPI as suitable communication platforms for you. We believe that sharing research like this can help raise awareness of Down syndrome.

World Oral Health Day 2025—“A Happy Mouth Is a Happy Mind”, 20 March 2025

World Oral Health Day is an annual observance dedicated to raising global awareness about the significance of maintaining good oral health and its impact on overall well-being. It serves as a call to action for people worldwide to take charge of their oral hygiene and to understand the critical role it plays in their quality of life. The date marks the World Health Organization’s very first World Health Day back in 1950. Since then, 20 March has been recognized as a day to highlight the importance of oral health.

We hope that the established journals within the fields of biology and life sciences, engineering, multidisciplinary healthcare, medicine, and pharmacology in MDPI, including Microorganisms, Methods and Protocols, Healthcare, Oral, Applied Sciences, Journal of Personalized Medicine and Reports will provide a conducive platform for the sharing of cutting-edge research and innovative ideas regarding oral health care.

European Medical Association (EMA) Now an Affiliated Society Member of Healthcare

In February 2025, the European Medical Association (EMA) became affiliated with Healthcare (ISSN: 2227-9032). As part of this collaboration, all members of the EMA will benefit from a discount on the applicable article processing charge (APC) when submitting their original articles to Healthcare.

The European Medical Association (EMA), established in 1990, is an independent non-profit organization, which aims to offer every European community doctor the opportunity to join a network of doctors and add a European dimension to their professional and social lives. The EMA accepts contributions from members and non-members alike. These collaborations are coordinated by the Executive Vice President for Medical Research and International Relations, with a focus on neglected or poorly promoted/developed global-scale strategic topics regarding medicine.

The EMA is a professional organization whose functions are highly relevant to the scope of Healthcare. We look forward to collaborating with the EMA and publishing state-of-the-art research from its members in this field.

Rare Disease Day, 28 February 2025

28 February 2025 is the 18th International Rare Disease Day. The establishment of this international day aims to further increase the public’s attention and awareness of rare diseases, promote the popularization of rare diseases, promote the screening, diagnosis and prevention of rare genetic diseases, and improve the quality of life.

Rare diseases usually refer to diseases with a very low incidence rate. The World Health Organization defines diseases with a prevalence rate between 0.065% and 0.1% of the total population as rare diseases. Rare diseases do not refer to a specific disease but constitute a general term for diseases with a low incidence rate that occur in various systems. Although the incidence rate of a single rare disease is low, there are many types, currently more than 7,000, and the total number of patients with rare disease is quite high. According to statistics, there are more than 300 million patients with rare diseases in the world. Rare diseases are mostly chronic and serious diseases that often endanger life.

In recognition of this day, we recommend the following related articles, Special Issues, and journals spanning multidisciplinary fields, including clinical medicine areas and society areas. We believe that sharing such research can raise the public’s awareness and understanding of rare diseases. By disseminating these findings, we hope to inspire positive change, promote scientific education on rare diseases, and promote the screening, diagnosis and prevention of rare genetic diseases.
