Cover Story: Patients from socially deprived and ethnic minority backgrounds associated with increased COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy are over-represented in the renal replacement therapy (RRT) population. A bespoke vaccination programme was designed with the involvement of a multidisciplinary team, using clinical teams as trusted messengers, patient engagement, local safety, and efficacy data to ensure equitable access to this life-saving intervention. The results of the programme showed that the total uptake for a first dose of COVID-19 vaccination was high at 96.7% and there were no statistically significant differences in patients from ethnic minority groups or socially deprived backgrounds. The vaccination uptake was higher compared to the reference regional adult clinically extremely vulnerable population.
