Cover Story: Minimizing material use and reducing the environmental impact of batteries are major challenges to ensure the sustainable and economically viable development of electric vehicles. Developing a reliable charging infrastructure is necessary to enable the downsizing of batteries and electric vehicles, which is the most preferable action to be taken to minimize the environmental impact according to the principles of a circular economy. Extending the life of batteries and reusing them after their automotive life is another important action to must be taken to minimize their environmental footprint. View this paper
