2007 WEVJ was launched as the official journal of the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA) and was published as a quarterly journal.
2018 WEVJ was published by MDPI from Volume 9, Issue 1 (2018).

2019 WEVJ was indexed in Ei Compendex/Engineering Village (Elsevier).
WEVJ announced the first edition of the Best Paper Award.
2020 WEVJ established the Advisory Board.

2021 WEVJ received its first CiteScore (2020) of 2.2.
2022 WEVJ adopted a monthly publication schedule.

2023 WEVJ received its first Impact Factor (2.3), ranked 194/349 (Q3) in “Engineering, Electrical and Electronic” and 34/67 (Q3) in “Transportation Science and Technology”.
WEVJ received its 2022 CiteScore (3.7), ranked 34/115 (Q2) in “Automotive Engineering”.
WEVJ announced the first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer Award.
2024 WEVJ received its 2023 Impact Factor (2.6), ranked 157/353 (Q2) in “Engineering, Electrical and Electronic” and 34/72 (Q2) in “Transportation Science and Technology”.
WEVJ received its 2023 CiteScore (4.5), ranked 36/125 (Q2) in “Automotive Engineering”.
2025 WEVJ announced the first edition of the Travel Award.
WEVJ received its 2024 Impact Factor (2.6), ranked 174/368 (Q2) in “Engineering, Electrical and Electronic” and 38/77 (Q2) in “Transportation Science and Technology”.
