Cover Story: Keratoconus, a progressive corneal disease, has long challenged patients and ophthalmologists. Corneal cross-linking, a breakthrough therapy, strengthens the cornea by bonding its fibers with riboflavin and light, halting disease progression. Originally a single protocol, it now includes tailored techniques for enhancing safety and effectiveness. This treatment reduces the need for invasive surgeries and improves patients’ vision. However, measuring its success remains difficult. Our study introduces the Severity Index, a new quantitative tool that objectively assesses cross-linking effectiveness, helping ophthalmologists predict outcomes and guide personalised care. View this paper
