Cover Story: Modern poultry nutrition must support animal health and productive efficiency while reducing environmental burdens. In this review, low-protein diets, functional additives, feed enzymes, alternative proteins, precision feeding and manure-emission mitigation are integrated into a four-level framework. Strategies are evaluated through physiological adequacy, precise nutrient supply, targeted intervention and whole-chain verification. The framework demonstrates how better intestinal function and nutrient retention can create shared benefits, while excessive restriction, inconsistent responses or overlooked upstream impacts can generate trade-offs. It calls for reproducible evidence, economic feasibility and transparent life cycle assessment before a nutritional strategy is considered sustainable. View this paper
