Cover Story: Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is an emerging biomarker of systemic immune activation and biological vulnerability in acute care. This figure illustrates its role as a supportive, rather than standalone, prognostic tool. When interpreted alongside clinical examination, vital signs, and patient history, suPAR may contribute to integrated risk assessment for mortality, clinical deterioration, disposition, length of stay, and readmission. Current evidence supports its potential value in refining acute-care stratification, while emphasizing that suPAR should complement established clinical pathways and should not replace clinical judgment or be applied using a universal decision threshold. View this paper
