Cover Story: Sin Nombre (SNV) and Andes (ANDV) viruses cause severe hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), which has a lethality rate as high as 35% and no currently available approved therapeutics or vaccines. Here, we show that recombinant VSV expressing SNV or ANDV glycoproteins protects Syrian hamsters against challenges with both forms of hantavirus, providing evidence that a single vaccine could be effective against multiple HCPS-causing agents.
