Catalysts, Volume 12, Issue 3
2022 March - 108 articles
Cover Story: Acidic green natural zeolite clinoptilolite was prepared via ammonium ion exchange and calcination. The obtained HCLIN catalyst was highly acidic and catalytically active in the etherification of renewable glycerol with t-butanol. The catalyst was thermally stable. Some reversible loss of Brønsted sites occurred, which was related to the formation of penta-coordinated Al[V], at the expense of tetrahedrally coordinated framework Al[IV]. BS sites were broad distributed. The porosity and specific surface area were high without post-synthesis treatment. The preparation process was highly sustainable. The use of environmentally harmful and corrosive mineral acids and chemicals was avoided. The release of waste water, material loss by acid or post-treatment, and energy consumption were reduced in this process. The produced catalyst is reusable.
