Cover Story: A wide variety of polymeric nanocarriers with distinct architectures, sizes, and surface properties have been developed by combining hyaluronic acid (HA) with another functional polymer. These nanosystems merge the advantages of both macromolecules. While HA offers biodegradability, biocompatibility, and recognition by cell surface receptors in tumor cells, the functional polymer can impart stimuli-responsiveness, ability to selectively entrap hydrophilic or hydrophobic drugs, and/or biodegradability, depending on its structure. All these properties make them ideal candidates not only for cancer therapy, but also for other biomedical applications. View this paper.
