Journal of Risk and Financial Management, Volume 14, Issue 12

2021 December - 56 articles

Cover Story: Achieving excess returns with an active investment strategy is only possible if precise forecasts are made about future developments. In this study, 2761 ex-ante forecasts for the Dow Jones Industrial Index (DJI), the German Stock Market Index (DAX), and the Euro Stoxx 50 (SX5E) from various banks around the world are analyzed. It turns out that patterns that have been known for over 80 years still have a negative influence on the quality of forecasts up until today. Overall, an extensive analysis shows that forecasts are flawed and lag behind actual events, which is why we recommend that the analysts adapt their forecasting approach. View this paper.
