Cover Story: Reliable propeller thrust prediction requires more than choosing a turbulence model. In this study, we combine X-ray computed tomography for an APC 18 × 12E propeller, static-thrust measurements and steady RANS simulations in a single rotating reference frame. Mesh resolution, domain size and boundary conditions are assessed separately before comparing four turbulence models at 1000, 3000, 5000 and 7000 RPM. The Reynolds stress model yields the lowest mean absolute percentage error, 2.70%, for the tested cases. All models underpredict thrust at 5000 and 7000 RPM, indicating that turbulence closure alone does not explain the remaining discrepancy. Through the resulting workflow, we provide a structured basis for early-stage static propeller assessment. View this paper
