October-1 2023 - 181 articles

Cover Story: The current high production of plastics has prompted the exploration of alternative pathways to facilitate recycling to reach a progressively sustainable society. This paper presents an alternative and affordable technology for treating waste expanded polystyrene (EPS) mixed with acetone to be used as 3D printing ink for direct-ink-writing technology. A comprehensive study was conducted to optimize the printing parameters, evaluating different needle diameters, printing speeds, and bed temperature values to achieve homogenous pieces. Finally, a comparative study was performed between the starting material and the EPS after the process was conducted, ensuring the polymer’s integrity during physical recycling. View this paper
