Cover Story: Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are a broad-spectrum class of antibiotics routinely prescribed for common bacterial infections despite recent recommendations to use them only for life-threatening cases. While extremely effective, FQs can lead to "fluoroquinolone-associated disability", or FQAD. While this disease is yet to be globally acknowledged, it is now recognized that the side effects are long-lasting and can involve several organ systems, including the gastrointestinal tract.
