Cover Story: Sjögren’s disease (SjD) is often difficult to distinguish from non-Sjögren sicca symptoms, frequently resulting in delayed diagnosis. In this Croatian cross-sectional study, patients with primary and secondary SjD demonstrated significantly reduced salivary flow rates and higher frequencies of antinuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-SSA/Ro60, anti-SSA/Ro52, anti-SSB/La, and rheumatoid factor (RF) positivity compared with non-SjD sicca patients. Sialometry, anti-SSA antibody testing, and minor labial salivary gland biopsy (MLSG) emerged as the most important diagnostic tools for differentiating SjD from non-SjD sicca patients. These findings highlight the value of an early, structured diagnostic approach in patients presenting with sicca symptoms. View this paper
