Cover Story: Marine plastic pollution is an emerging environmental concern in the Mediterranean Sea, with microplastics increasingly being detected in commercially important fish species. This study investigates anthropogenic particle ingestion in Atlantic chub mackerel (Scomber colias) collected from the Saronikos Gulf, one of the most industrialized coastal areas in Greece. The results reveal the occurrence, characteristics, and composition of ingested anthropogenic particles, highlighting the predominance of small fragments and fibers. By linking particle ingestion with biological traits of the species, this study provides valuable insight into pollution exposure pathways in pelagic fish and contributes to ongoing efforts to assess the ecological implications of anthropogenic particle contamination in marine ecosystems and seafood resources. View this paper
