2016 The inaugural issue was released. Fishes was published as a quarterly journal.
2018 Fishes announced the first edition of the Travel Award project.
2019 Fishes was indexed in Scopus.
2020 Fishes became an affiliated journal of the Iberian Society of Ichthyology (SIBIC).
2021 Fishes was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) - Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).
Fishes received its first Impact Factor 2.385.
Fishes established the following sections:
  • Nutrition and Feeding Section;
  • Welfare, Health and Disease Section;
  • Genetics and Biotechnology Section;
  • Physiology and Biochemistry Section;
  • Biology and Ecology Section;
  • Fishery Economics, Policy, and Management Section;
  • Taxonomy, Evolution, and Biogeography Section;
  • Sustainable Aquaculture Section;
  • Environment and Climate Change Section.
2022 Fishes adopted a bimonthly publication schedule.
Fishes became an affiliated journal of Brazilian Society of Aquaculture and Aquatic Biology (Aquabio).
Fishes announced the first edition of the Best Paper and Outstanding Reviewer awards.
The Impact Factor of Fishes increased to 3.170 (2021).
