10th Anniversary

The year 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Fishes, a peer-reviewed open access journal on fishes and aquatic animals. With an Impact Factor of 2.4 and a CiteScore of 3.0, the journal is covered in Scopus, SCIE (Web of Science), PubAg, FSTA and other databases. The journal has published more than 2457 papers from more than 11596 authors. More than 3428 reviewers have reviewed the journal at least once. We equally value the contributions made by our editors, authors, and reviewers.

In honor of the journal’s 10th anniversary, we are reflecting on our past accomplishments and embarking on an exciting new chapter. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone for our journal and to explore the content we have prepared for you below.

The inaugural issue was released. Fishes was published as a quarterly journal. Prof. Dr. Maria Angeles Esteban was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Fishes.



Fishes announced the first edition of the Travel Award.

Fishes was indexed in Scopus—Elsevier.



The Iberian Society of Ichthyology (SIBIC) became affiliated to Fishes.



Fishes was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).



Fishes received its first Impact Factor (2.385).



Fishes established the following sections:
Nutrition and Feeding
;
Welfare, Health and Disease;
Genetics and Biotechnology;
Physiology and Biochemistry;
Biology and Ecology;
Fishery Economics, Policy, and Management;
Taxonomy, Evolution, and Biogeography;
Sustainable Aquaculture;
Environment and Climate Change.

Fishes adopted a bimonthly publication schedule.

Brazilian Society of Aquaculture and Aquatic Biology (Aquabio) became affiliated to Fishes.



Fishes announced the first edition of the Best Paper and Outstanding Reviewer awards.

Fishes adopted a monthly publication schedule. Fishes established the following sections:
Aquatic Invertebrates;
Fish Pathology and Parasitology.

Prof. Dr. Rodolphe Elie Gozlan was appointed as the Section Editor-in-Chief for the section on Welfare, Health and Disease.



Dr. Pedro Morais was appointed as the Section Editor-in-Chief for the section on Environment and Climate Change.



Fishes announced the first edition of the Young Investigator Award.
