Cover Story: The transition toward circular plastic waste management requires flexible, scalable, and decentralized technological solutions. This article presents portable chemical recycling units as a decentralized approach to plastic waste valorization. Built around a modular pyrolysis system housed in a standard shipping container, the proposed design enables localized treatment of plastic waste streams and greater operational flexibility. The concept addresses key limitations of centralized waste management by reducing transport dependence and facilitating deployment in remote or infrastructure-constrained areas. Through thermochemical conversion, these units support the recovery of valuable products from plastic waste and demonstrate how containerized, modular systems can contribute to more resilient and circular waste-management pathways. View this paper
