Cover Story: Sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) is a high-value crop in Italy, yet its production is significantly limited by environmental stresses, particularly rain-induced cracking, which adversely impacts yield and quality. This study investigated the efficacy of macro and micro-nutrients foliar applications in mitigating cracking and enhancing post-harvest quality and shelf-life of the 'Regina' cultivar. The research was conducted in a commercial orchard in Piedmont, Italy, and assessed parameters including vegetative growth, fruit yield, cracking incidence, and post-harvest quality during a 14-day storage period at 2 °C and 75% RH. Foliar treatments enhanced shoot growth, increased the proportion of marketable fruits (>28 mm diameter), and reduced cracking. Treated fruits also exhibited lower weight loss, greater firmness, and improved preservation of bioactive compounds along the shelf-life test. View this paper
